A Guide to Wintersköl Celebrations in Aspen

Greetings from Meridian Jewelers! As winter blankets the charming town of Aspen, it’s time to celebrate the season with the much-anticipated Wintersköl festival. This weekend promises a flurry of exciting events that will leave you enchanted with our town. Here’s your guide to making the most of the festivities.

Thursday, January 11

Ice Carving by Thomas Barlow:
This will be going on all weekend. Come check out the artist, carve ice and snow into a winter wonderland. He will be doing his craft LIVE in the downtown square.

Aspen Extreme, 7:30pm:
Check out Aspen Extreme, an iconic, classic movie about skiing in Aspen-hosted at the historical Wheeler Opera House. TIckets are free and first come, first serve.

Friday, January 12

Friday Morning Uphill Breakfast Club, 8:30-10am:
Join fellow Wintersköl folks for the Friday Morning Uphill Breakfast Club, at Buttermilk Mountain. Skin or hike up the mountain and be rewarded with a delicious breakfast at the mountaintop restaurant, Cliffhouse. Breakfast is FREE if you brave the hike.

World Pro Ski Tour, 12pm:
Pro Qualifications, Super Slalom #1, Women & Men.  Adrenaline-pumping dual alpine super slalom ski racing featuring Olympians, World Cup and NCAA racers. This will be going on Saturday and Sunday as well on Aspen Mountain.

Live Music by 432One, 2-4pm:
432One is a collaborative local band that features honest and vulnerable songwriting from the heart. This will be in Wagner Park.

AVSC Rail Jam, 5-7pm:
Hosted by Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club and the Aspen Chamber Resort Association, come cheer on local athletes (or compete yourself!) at this years annual Rail Jam. Prizes, music, and fun for all. Below Lift 1A on Aspen Mountain.

Saturday, January 13

Wintersköl Beer Festival, 2-6pm:
Raise a mug to the true spirit of Wintersköl!  The ‘Toast of Winter’ Beer Festival, is here to gather for an evening of frosty festivities, live entertainment, good company and of course, beer! Open to everyone; must be 21 years or older for beer/spirits tastings. Tickets here. Wagner Park.

Soupsköl 3-5pm:
Celebrate Aspen’s best restaurants and a little friendly competition of who can make the most creative, best tasting soup! One of Aspen’s most cherished events. Winning restaurant will receive the coveted Soupsköl soup pot and bragging rights for 2024! This will be hosted at Wagner Park.

Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Display, 7:30-8pm:
Join the Wintersköl festivities with a torchlight parade down Aspen Mountain’s Little Nell Run. Sign-ups will be on a first-come, first-served basis at the base of the Nell Chair starting at 6:30 pm, with the lift loading from 7:30 pm to 7:45 pm. Adults will be provided with flares for the ski down, while kids can choose glowsticks. Led by an Aspen Snowmass Ski Pro, the parade kicks off at 8 pm, followed by a breathtaking fireworks display once skiers have descended the hill. We recommend that participants wear clothing they don’t mind getting burn marks from flares. Be a part of an unforgettable evening on the slopes!

Sunday, January 14

The Ultimate Drag Bingo Brunch Experience, 10-12pm:
Prepare for a fabulous round of Drag Queen Bingo, masterfully hosted by the vivacious clown in an elegant gown, the one and only Ms. Mariam T. Hailing from San Diego, she brings her unique charm to The Little Nell’s Grand Salon. Indulge in a delightful morning feast with the added choice of prosecco, mimosas, or Bloody Marys. Wintersköl Broomball Tournament, 10:30-4pm
Get ready for the return of Broomball! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or trying it out for the first time, the Broomball event invites everyone to join in the frosty fun. Known for its high-energy and often amusing dynamics, Broomball sets itself apart with its swift pace. The absence of skates and the slippery ice surface add a distinctive challenge, making it inclusive for participants of all skating abilities. Secure your spot early; Limited space for teams.
